Under the Big Tree

Last Saturday me, my mom, my brother and his wife decided to finally pay a visit to my cousin's shop (he has been bugging me since it first opened) in an effort to support his not so new food place.

The shop is called Big Tree Lin Kee (Branch) and is located at :
No: 31, Jalan Cerdas 1, Taman Connaught, Cheras, KL.
The main branch I believe is located a small distance away.
The branch at Jalan Cerdas is opened from 3.30 p.m - 10.30 p.m and closed on Wednesdays.

Upon reaching it was raining therefore there were limited seats under the roof.
It was a weekend so there was a crowd standing and waiting.

Seriously, I did not expect the business to be that good. I always thought it was some small makan place or something before I heard some people telling me that their steamed fish do run out early at very busy days. And on Saturday itself it was full house.

The original branch was opened by my cousin brother's wife's parents.
However, my cousin brother and his wife runs the second branch.



This is the appetizer we ordered recommended by my cousin brother's wife.
It is herbal chicken soup that was boiled overnight served in a coconut shell.

O hai, I iz the coconut man.

The soup was nice I won't lie by saying its extremely superb because my grandparents own a chinese medicine shop, and you just can't compare.
However, it makes a good appetizer,warms the tummy *mmm*.



This is the veggie dish we ordered.
Its a combination of long beans, brinjal, petai, onions, green+red pepper & lady fingers.
I think its called the 4 bean combo or something (sorry I'm bad at remembering cantonese dish names :/)

At first glance, the veggie dish looked very ordinary & boring like any other type of veggie dish.
However when I took a bite I immediately fell in love with it.

The secret is in the sauce.
The sauce used inside was YUMMY!! It also has the crispy "xia mi" 虾米(small dried shrimps) added with the sauce.
Definitely will order this when I go again *drools*



"Zhao Pai Dou Fu"(招牌豆腐) which means house speciality tou fu, crispy outside & soft inside.
I don't know what they added inside the taufu but it taste good as well.
Comes with mayo and sweet chilli dippings.
It is also smaller than usual crispy tou fus (but more in quantity) which makes it easy to just pop one inside your mouth *noms*



And another favourite of mine is this "Vinegar Trotter"( 猪脚酸). Alot of places don't have very tasty vinegar trotter because it is hard to make it thick yet the right sourness.
The one at Big Tree serves it mainly focusing on its sourness and thick texture, just the way I like it.
There is also a generous serving of pork and ginger.



And lastly, what Big Tree Lin Kee is famous for -->their steamed fish.
There are different sauces for their steamed fish and this is the bean paste chilli one.
The steamed fish is very soft and took a while to finish which meant the fish was quite big in size.
The bean paste was salty and thick with a bit spiciness, goes along well with the sweetness of the fish.
Was very satisfied although I kept wondering why they cut the tail part off *hurm*


The helping of fish is big and I was worried it would cost alot.
However, my cousin told me that the steamed fish will cost around RM21 + depending on its size (the bigger the more expensive but should be within RM25)

The fish are regularly bred and taken in from Ipoh. It is a fresh water fish called "Song Yu"

The 5 dishes above along with 4 plates of rice cost around RM65 which was a very good deal for 4 person's share. *Happy*

Feeling hungry ? If you ask my honest opinion, Big Tree definitely doesn't lose out in taste, quality and pricing compared to many food places.

Seeds

I think there were 4 or 5.
But they all started out short, ended quick.
The longest was 4 months but we parted our ways.
Not many knew they existed, I was clever to hide them. Or that people were not interested.

The fact that you are reading this proves otherwise.
At least for the first few lines you have subjected you and your wonderful self to me.
Looking as I type to :
You in your office slacking
You in your room bored to bits and
You who have no idea what I'm going on about.

Blogs.
The 6th one to be precise this is.
Heard that?
No one's clapping their hands for me. Louder please and tq.

This outrageous decision, though not made by me, was a gimmick / a joke/ a reason by friends who somehow found it to be essential for me to start a blog. *pfft*

So here I am, spreading my part of bullshit on cyberspace :) *waves*

I instantly regret this. *pauses* Ok ,continune.

Drawing to the closing of 2009 I am left wondering what good have I bestowed to the people around me.
And somehow I am clueless, and sometimes you will feel you have not made an impact.

And you probably didn't. But if you did, good on you.

For those like me, Christmas should be a time of giving and sharing. Something demonic/sinful people should really think about.

Isn't it time you given/shared/made someone something to make that person happy instead of yourself? *whispers:yes it is you idiot*

So on this high note of jingle bells spirit I will now leave you in guilt to think about December.
As the first post should be short and sweet like how first kisses are.
If you feel a bitter aftertaste, then this post is pointed at you, or it could be that your partner's mouth is smelly.
